“Today, we’re excited to announce our community has grown to more than 500 million Instagrammers — more than 300 million of whom use Instagram every single day. Our community also continues to become even more global, with more than 80 percent living outside of the United States.” – Instagram Blog, 21 June 2016
In December 2014 Instagram announced that it reached 300 million active accounts, which at that time started overshadowing Twitter (with only 284 million active monthly users) and already became one of the Big 4 social platforms. Nine months down the line and they stun with an additional 100 million users, totaling to 400 million monthly users.
During this time of enormous growth, they have also upped their game and launched several new features and algorithms such as paid advertising and a news feed that adapts to your viewing; showing relevant posts form people you follow (so you might miss a few things here and there…huge uproar from some #igers). Many have criticised this move but the numbers show differently, with growth continuing to exceed expectations. My personal opinion: people weren’t worried about missing anything, they were more worried about being missed.
Today, we’re excited to announce our community has grown to more than 500 million Instagrammers — more than 300 million of whom use Instagram every single day. Our community also continues to become even more global, with more than 80 percent living outside of the United States :
Another nine months, with another 100 million #Igers. This is a clear indication that the enthusiasm for the app is definitely not slowing down. That being said, Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom also noted in an accompanying interview that the average time spent on Instagram, is 21 minutes per session.
So exactly how many people use Instagram every day?
Instagram claims to have 300 million daily active users who share up to 95 million photos and videos every 24 hours. 300 Million people scrolling 21 minutes (per session) every day!? That’s an opportunity every business can take on successfully.
Is your business contributing to these figures? Instagram is a huge part of the ecosystem, and more people communicate visually every day, with more than 80% of their users being outside of the US, you’ve got a large audience to reach. It’s worth taking into account.
